Our Exceptional Transporation Service for Seniors
One of the most popular features of Santa Marta senior living in Olathe, KS, is our transportation service. Our team of drivers Kevin Swartz, Jeff Hohman, Rich Milford and Bob Fowler provide exceptional service and care to all of our senior residents. They make trips to area shopping centers, grocery stores, social and cultural events and local restaurants, which are planned by the Lifestyles department each month. But most of their time is devoted to taking residents to and from medical appointments.
This terrific group of men have all received professional driver safety training and they all hold a Commercial Drivers License. They operate Santa Marta’s new 20-passenger bus and the van, which are both equipped with chair lifts, as well as two cars. All four vehicles get regular safety inspections.
“I take pride in feeling that I am helping make a residents day a little easier,” says Kevin. “We really genuinely enjoy the people we see every day and learning more about each individual. Hearing stories about their professional careers, their families and spouses, or where they grew up is a gratifying connection that we are able to make with a resident with our safe, private and confidential service .”
Residents make all requests for transportation to medical appointments by simply calling or stopping by the Concierge Desk at least 48 hours in advance. Transportation is available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday. To schedule your ride all you need is the doctor’s name and address, the time and date of your appointment and any special instructions for the drivers. This simple luxury allows you to take the pressure off you and your family when it comes to getting to and from medical appointments and it gives you the opportunity to make and to keep your appointments as well. There is a minimal charge for some transportation, for example, when a trip is more than 10 miles one way or an appointment requires you to leave earlier than 8:00 a.m. or return to Santa Marta later than 5:00 p.m.
Kevin, Jeff, Rich and Bob also help out with Lifestyle events and parties. It is not uncommon to see them making popcorn, supervising an exercise class or tending bar! Two times a week they offer hour long scenic drives to our Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Memory Support residents. There are smiles all around as healthcare residents enjoy these leisurely rides around town or to the park .
Your safety is of the utmost importance to all our drivers. Behind those kindhearted smiles are a group of capable, careful drivers who know they are transporting precious cargo!
